Are
you overdue for a website?
If you are in business, then it's time for a website. These days, every business is expected to have a website. And many individuals have them too. But if you are not ready to set up your website, you should at least park (register and reserve) your domain name -- if it is still available. You can park your own name or the name of your business, production company, organization, and so on. It costs about $15 per year to park your domain name. If your first choice is not available, then book an alternative name now -- using the handy registration box to the right. Why do this? If your name or company name gets into the news, you can be sure a cyber-squatter will register it and use it for nefarious means -- a porn site or a faux search engines site (a search engine that serves up only paid or advertised links). Again, you can park your name and not set up a website. However, once you are ready to create your site, or have a website designer create one for you, you can:
Fee Web space from your ISP involves a long, clunky domain name, perhaps something like http://www.yourISP/free-space/yourname.html. That is not something you want on a business card or resume. Also, it does not reserve your personal or business name. Redirecting or domain forwarding is a simple process. When a person enters yourname.com in a browser, the request is forwarded to the Web space provided your ISP. The process is completely transparent to the person who wants to visit your site. Domain forwarding is not for everybody. Free Web space is often limited and generally does not include the tools necessary to spruce up your site or do any e-commerce. In addition, domain forwarding limits your ability to optimize your site for search engines. To really spruce up your site, do e-commerce and/or optimize your site for search engines, you have to purchase Web space through a web host. Talk to people you know and go with a reputable and affordable host you can trust. Whether you want to discuss media training, writing
workshops, writing or editing services, or communications consulting,
the right words are just a
click away.
